Driver extricated from wrecked vehicle

Crews work to clear the scene as the driver is taken away by air ambulance.

A Jerome man and his wife were injured in a single-vehicle crash on westbound I-84 near milepost 96 around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Elmore County Deputy Rudy Foote, Mark Yearsly lost control of his vehicle after it went off the left shoulder of the highway. He overcorrected while trying to steer the car back on the interstate and ended up driving off the right shoulder.

The car rolled at least once before coming to rest on its wheels about 50 feet off the interstate. The force of the impact crushed in a section of the roof.

Members of the local extrication team cut away the roof to make it easier for emergency crews to get to Yearsly.

"We essentially had to remove the vehicle from the patient," said Alan Roberts from the Elmore County Rescue Team.

A Life Flight helicopter took Yearsly to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. An ambulance took his wife, Tammy, to Elmore Medical Center for treatment.

Since Dec. 15, the county extrication team has dealt with four major accidents around the Mountain Home area, Roberts said. On Dec. 24, the team rescued a five-year-old boy pinned inside a semi-truck cab after the vehicle rolled on its side at the Highway 30 and Frontage Road intersection Dec. 24.

The cause of this latest crash remains under investigation.
