Some fixes needed at VA

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Dear editor:

We are extremely happy with the staff of the Boise Veterans Hospital. They are very concerned with patient care. We find them to be cheerful, polite, and kind, striving to make our experiences there as pleasant as possible.

However, we have observed some problems with the present status quo.

The parking facilities are most inadequate. There do not seem to be sufficient parking spaces for both patient and staff vehicles. There are so many patients now that we are either forced to drive around for some time, searching for a vacancy, or park far away.

Perhaps golf car shuttles would be helpful (such as most major hospitals now have.) The ideal would be one or more large parking garages. There is space enough for these, but we suppose the funds are not available.

Due to the shortage of qualified staff, there seems to be only one available operating room. More nurses, anesthesiologists and other support personnel are urgently needed to enable the surgeons to more efficiently do their job. If funds are sorely lacking, perhaps more field workers and less middle management would help ease this problem.

In conclusion, we want to stress again the wonderful attitude of the people at your Boise Veterans Hospital. We are most grateful for their help.
