No significant fire activity occurred on the Sand Hollow fire overnight. Fire crews will continue to put out any remaining hot spots and began the mop up process this morning. Due to the excellent job done by firefighters yesterday and the resultant lack of fire behavior, fire bosses have pushed the contain and control times up significantly. Containment is now estimated for 2 PM today with an estimated control time of 7 PM this evening. All resources are projected to be off the fire by end of shift this evening.
The Sand Hollow fire burned a total of 1252 acres near the Little Gem Cycle Park in Emmett, Idaho. Bureau of Land Management fire investigators determined the cause to be a steel bullet striking a steel shooting target, causing sparks to fall into the surrounding dry grass.
Fire managers encourage anyone out enjoying our wildlands to please be careful with anything that might start a wildfire. Southwest Idaho is still experiencing hot and dry conditions and the potential for a wildfire is still great.
