Huge haystack fire ruins $125,000 worth of forage

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Mountain Home fire crews responded to a huge haystack on fire at DeGroot Dairy at 3 a.m. Monday morning.

Approximately 500 tons of hay were burned for an estimated loss of $125,000. The cause of the fire is unknown but suspected to be spontaneous combustion.

Fire crews were assisted by BLM crews, as well as units from Hammett and Mountain Home AFB.

Some crews remained on scene for 15 hours to make sure the fire did not flare back up.
