Bowe Bergdahl

The Department of Defense announced this week that the soldier listed as Missing-Captured on July 3 in Afghanistan is an Idaho native, PFC Bowe R. Bergdahl, 23, of Ketchum.

Bergdahl is a member of 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.

The Bergdahl family, in a statement released through the Idaho National Guard, said that "We hope and pray for our son's safe return to his comrades and then to our family, and we appreciate all the support and expressions of sympathy shown to us by our family members, our friends and others across the nation. Thank you, and please continue to keep Bowe in your thoughts and prayers."

While Bergdahl is not a National Guardsman, the Idaho National Guard is coordinating with a number of Department of Defense agencies to provide public affairs and other assistance to the Bergdahl family.
