Aug. 1 Golf Classic will raise funds for hospital

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

The Elmore Medical Center Foundation will host the 2009 Annual Golf Classic and Silent Auction on Saturday, Aug. 1.

The Golf Classic will raise money for a new ventilator for the hospital acute care department and to support the growing endowment fund.

The 2009 Annual Golf Classic will begin with a continental breakfast and golfer registration starting at 7:30 a.m. at Desert Canyon Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Participants will tee off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start. A barbecue chicken and barbecue pulled pork sandwich lunch is included.

Following lunch, awards, golf contest prizes and door prizes will be awarded.

Golfers may participate for a $50 registration fee. The registration fee includes green fees, golfer gift bag, continental breakfast and lunch. A limited number of golf carts are available.

Non-golfers can attend the lunch for $25.

Golfers are being strongly encouraged to pre-register early to reserve their place in the tournament. The tournament can accommodate 36 teams of four golfers.

Registration forms are available at the golf course and Elmore Medical Center as well as on-line at www.elmorefoundation.org.

The foundation was established in the fall of 2001. Every year the fundraising proceeds from the Golf Classic have been used to purchase needed equipment for the hospital. In past years the foundation has purchased a Long Term Care Unit van, covered nearly half of the cost for the construction of the helipad, purchased a portable bone density scanner, provided funding towards the purchase of a new C-arm, a mobile x-ray machine and supported the purchase of a new infant warmer, defibrillator and colonoscope.

"In an effort to continue to respond to the health care needs of the community," a spokesperson said, the foundation board of directors elected to purchase a new ventilator for the acute care unit. The ventilator is used to provide breathing assistance to patients that are breathing insufficiently on their own, according to Doreen Krabbenhoft, Foundation Director.

"Elmore Medical Center is constantly looking for ways to improve patient care," she said. "The EMC Foundation is proud to provide additional support to help meet those needs."

A variety of donated items will be available for bidding in the silent auction. This year the list includes a Toshiba DVD player, a night's stay at Cactus Pete's with dinner for two, Roaring Springs passes, a handmade quilt, LifeFlight membership and other items and gift baskets.

"Golfers and non-golfers alike are encouraged to stop by and bid." Krabbenhoft said.

The silent auction will close at the conclusion of the golf tournament, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Winning bidders may pick up their items at that time.

The Annual Golf Classic is the largest fundraising event conducted by the Elmore Medical Center Foundation. The event is organized by the volunteer members on the foundation board of directors.

All proceeds from the event will be applied towards the purchase of the ventilator and to support the endowment fund.

All donations to the Elmore Medical Center Foundation are tax deductible.
