Rally race event set for this weekend

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

The Idaho Rally returns to Elmore County this year July 10-11.

Forty-six rally cars from the US and Canada have already registered and for the first time motorcycles have been added to the mix.

Those attending will participate in several different championships, United States Rally Championship, California Rally Series, Max Attack-2 Wheel Drive Championship and the Pacific North West Rally Championship. The race will be governed by NASA Rally Sport.

Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. --Spectators can travel to Featherville and watch the teams in the service area. There spectators can watch the cars start, or finish later on in the day.

Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. -- Spectators can see the cars in downtown Mountain Home at the El Rancho Parking Lot.

All competitors will be there. It is an opportunity to talk to the crews, get autographs, take pictures, chat about the sport, or sit in a rally car.

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. -- At the Best Western (service area) spectators can see the cars come into time controls, watch the teams repair the vehicles and get a close look at the equipment.

Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. -- The spectator area, 20 minutes from Mountain Home, will be at the Cow Creek Road/Dixie Cut Off intersection. Signs are posted to direct you from Highway 20.

Spectators can access and leave the area at anytime. There is plenty of parking, organizers say. Food, drinks, garbage disposal and rest room facilities are provided on site.

On site spectators will see the cars and bikes hit a jump and negotiate a sharp corner. The area is open and gives a good view of the action.

Saturday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. -- The Finish Ceremony will be held at the El Rancho Parking Lot.

The winners will be presented, trophies given, champagne sprayed and stories told.
