Richard Caron

A 41-year-old NCO from Mountain Home AFB, Richard Caron, died when he apparently drowned in a private swimming pool in Mountain Home Saturday evening.

Caron had been one of several people who had gathered at a home located at 695 E. 13th North St. to celebrate the Fourth of July. "People were going in and out all the time, but it wasn't really a big party," said Sgt. Rick Viola of the Mountain Home Police Department. "A lot of them were Air Force folks."

Police Chief John Walter said that someone had noticed that they hadn't seen Caron for a while. They began a search and found him at the bottom of the pool. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police received the call at 6:48 p.m., and arrived three minutes later.

No foul play is suspected. Pending the results of an autopsy held Monday and toxicology tests to determine if there were any contributing factors to the death, the investigation remains open.

A memorial service will be held at Hanger 1331 at Mountain Home Air Force Base, on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 9 a.m. Inurnment will be held in Brooksville, Fla., at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Caron was a Master Sergeant-selectee at Mountain Home AFB.

He was experienced around water, enjoying scuba diving among the activities in which he participated.

He is survived by his wife of nearly ten years, Christina Caron of Mountain Home

Rich has been a friend of our family for many years. This is a very sad loss to many people. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tina and the rest of the Caron family and friends. Rich will be deeply missed.

  • Rich will be missed greatly by many. It is horrible to lose someone so unexpectedly. I do want to comment however on the article itself.. The "facts" listed in this article are incorrect, and have angered and upset quite a few people. I understand the "freedom of the press", but when reporting a story, reporting the CORRECT FACTS is important!!

Tarmamma96: What is so incorrect? We have known the Caron's for 10 plus years and been there for Tina during this time. The only problem was that they put Tina and him had been married for nearly 10 years and infact it should have been nearly 20 year and the AF promoted him after the fact in honor of his stripe. The facts were reported correctly and Rich will be deeply missed by us forever! We have a huge void.

  • airforcewive: I also am a friend of Tina's and have been there for her during the horribly unexpected passing of Rich as well. I agree with you, Rich will be greatly missed and remembered. The facts that you listed are exactly the ones that were incorrect. When reporting a tragedy as this, it is important to the people involved to have things reported correctly.
