Alumni will gather Friday for 'annual' football game

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

In what organizers hope will be the first of a yearly tradition, the Mountain Home Tiger football team is hosting an alumni football game at Tiger Field this Friday night.

The game was set up to be Mountain Home High School alumni that graduated in even years playing against alumni from the odd years. There have been more odd-year alumni register than even-year alumni, but Tiger head football coach Brian Floyd believes there are enough alumni to make up two teams.

"We're excited about it. We'll have just enough people to play in it, and I think there's going to be a lot of late registrations.

"Everybody's been calling me, and if they need registration forms they can go to the district website. It should be a very fun time.

"We've got people flying back from Ohio, Washington, California, and they're coming from all over. It should be an exciting time.

"We'll probably start introductions just after 7 p.m, and get the game under way about 8 p.m., to let it cool off just a little bit."

Coach Floyd said that the oldest alumni that are coming to play includes a 1975 Mountain Home graduate.

Admission to the Alumni game is $5, with children 12 and under admitted free.

Floyd said the proceeds will go to help the high school football team pay for summer camps.

"We'll use that money to pay for our UNLV camp that we're going to, because we try to make that as cheap as possible for the kids, and the camps that we do go to are a little bit of money, but I think it's worth it for these kids, so they pay half and we pay half through fundraising."
