Tiger tennis hosts summer camp

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

The Mountain Home High School Tiger tennis team will host its annual two-week Summer Tennis Camp next month.

The camp is open for children ages 4-14 and will be held at the Richard Aguirre Park tennis courts, starting June 1 and ending June 12.

Tiger head tennis coach Tamzy House and JV tennis coach Mandy Leonard will run the camp, assisted by several of the Tiger tennis team members.

"The camp is structured into 10 progressive lessons (10 days)," said Coach House. "The lessons are designed for particular age groups and they follow the U.S. Tennis Association's Quickstart/Little Tennis program guidelines."

House said separate sessions have been set up for four different age groups to provide age-appropriate tennis instruction, so that tennis "fun-damentals" can be enjoyed by all.

Session 1 (8:30-9:30 a.m.) is for 4- to 5-year-olds.

Session 2 (9:45-10:45 a.m.) is for 6- to 7-year-olds.

Session 3 (11 a.m. to noon) is for 8- to 10-year-olds.

Session 4 (1-2 p.m.) is for 11- to 14-year-olds.

Sessions 1, 2 and 3 cost $45, which includes 10 hours of instruction, a T-shirt and a certificate. Session 4 costs $75 and includes 15 hours of instruction, a T-shirt and certificate.

The Tennis Tiger Camp registration form can be downloaded from the internet by going to www. mtnhomesd.org and clicking on sports camps. Forms also are available at all the grade schools, middle school and high school.

House said forms with payments can be mailed to the high school, or parents may directly register their kids at the high school office. For more information call 590-0739.

  • Can't believe they have camps for 4 year olds. choicecamps.com (http://www.choicecamps.com) have options for 5 year olds, i already feel funny. But I guess age doesn't matter so much.
