Code officer can help make sure rentals in shape

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Dear editor:

I've learned of rental properties recently that are not in good repair and residents are suffering because of it.

The code enforcement officer of the city was very kind in informing me about resourses available to renters. Folks can call either the city's or the county's building official for inspections. And the state inspectors of electricity and plumbing take calls as well.

There are legal proceedings also, but attorneys need to charge for their services most of the time.
