Bob was born on November 8, 1944, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Air Force from November 1961 until December 1981, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 101, VFW Post 5423, and La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (40/8) Voiture 336, serving as Sous Nationale Directeur of Nurses Training, Grande Le Editor/Publicist, and Grand Correspondent.
Bob enjoyed being in the mountains; hunting, camping and fishing.
Bob is survived by his wife Florene "Flo" Swanson of Mountain Home, his daughter Michelle and her husband Scott Erickson of Elizabeth Lake, California, his son Robert Jr. and his wife Karen Swanson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and his son Brent Swanson of Mountain Home, his brothers Michael, Edward and Dan Swanson, his sisters, Mary Penke and Diane Lamp and grandchildren; Bradley, Sage, Alia, Lilah and Aaron. He was preceded in death by his parents Henrietta (Caulum) and Edward A. Swanson, a brother Bill and his daughter Kristine.
