This weekend's Cowboy Crazee Daze will provide entertainment in venues all over the city of Mountain Home.

During the festival, several businesses in the downtown area will offer sidewalk sales.

The Mountain Home Retail Merchants' Committee will host the Crazee Daze Carnival, featuring Royal West Amusements, starting Thursday, May 21, until Sunday, May 24, at Optimist Park.

On Saturday, the main day for Crazee Daze, the El Rancho Parking lot will host several on-stage demonstrations and dance performances from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with live music performances continuing until 11 p.m.

The Glenns Ferry Opera Theater will hold three separate performances in the El Rancho Parking lot during Saturday's festivities, starting with a children's show at 10 a.m. and concluding with "The Amazing Shrinking Machine" at 1 p.m.

Actors from the opera theater will be dressed as the western characters they will be portraying for the group's summer dinner theater: "Blazing Guns at Roaring Gulch." The actors will perform vignettes from the show between acts and serve as hosts and hostesses.

The Optimist cheerleaders will perform at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m, while dancers from the Elmore County Hispanic Organization will perform at 1:30 p.m. Both events will be at the El Rancho parking lot.

On Saturday, Crazee Daze will also feature two fashion shows at the parking lot, sponsored by Maurice's (at 10:30 a.m.) and Jennie's (at 2:30 p.m.).

Saturday's festivities will conclude with a pet parade, where owners can show off their costumed pets for prizes at 3 p.m., live music from local artist Tom Simpson at 4:30 p.m., a cowboy poetry reading at 5:30 p.m. and live karaoke at 6 p.m. All those events also will be at the El Rancho parking lot.

The Mountain Home Youth Center will hold a fundraiser at the former Thrifty Car Sales lot located at the corner of American Legion and Main St. The event will feature bounce houses for youth. Tickets for the fundraiser will cost $2 or three tickets for $5.

Mountain Home Youth Center, located at 130 N. Main St., also will host a competition for the video game, "Guitar Hero World Tour." Registration for Guitar Hero will start at 9 a.m., with the competition beginning at 11 a.m.

The entry cost for Guitar Hero will be $5 and prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. The Guitar Hero competition will take place all day, according to organizers.

All About You, located at 365 N. 3rd East St., Suite C, will host a Shampoo Bowling event, a game of bowling where shampoo bottles will serve as the bowling pins.

Proceeds from the shampoo bowling will go to "Locks of Love," a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

Stardust Plaza will host the Show N' Shine car show. Registration ($10) will start at 9 a.m., and the show will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.

Proceeds from the Show N' Shine car show will go to the Elmore County Domestic Violence Council.

D&B Supply, 555 W. 6th South St., will host a petting zoo organized by the Mountain Home High School rodeo team from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a tug of war and paintball target shoot, located at American Legion Boulevard Field between Mountain Home RV Park and Anytime Fitness.

Registration for both the tug of war and paintball events begin at 9 a.m. The tug of war will take place all day long, according to organizers.

  • This years crazee daze sucked. Pardon the word. But it did. I am sure a lot of people will agree. With the Carnival itself being at optimist park and with less rides than normal and an inconveiniance to some people. It became a problem. I remember when the vendors would fill up not only second street but Main street as well. Fire Trucks would block the street so that people can walk around and see the vendors. This year it was scattered and there were maybe a dozen vendors out and they didn't get a lot of business. Yes it was during Memorial weekend and some people wanted to go camping or visit relatives but it has been during that weekend before and it was still packed. Maybe it was cause of the recession but, if it was because of that then why did they set up the carnival. It just makes me upset to see a tradition go away. It made our community come out and enjoy the weather and get out and enjoy the friendly atmosphere that is Mountain Home. If someone has a good reason why this years Crazee Daze events were a little bland let me know. I want to thank the people who were out there and also send my regards to them as well I am sure they were pretty bored only getting a few customers. I hope next years Crazee Daze goes wonderfully and is better than this years. I wonder how the AFAD Parade is going to be?
