Four MHHS teams win district titles

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

The spring sports season is one to remember for Mountain Home Tiger sports teams.

On Friday, May 8, Mountain Home won district titles in softball, baseball, and girls and boys track.

"I'm pretty darn proud to be an alumni," said Mountain Home Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi over the weekend, after learning of the success of the Mountain Home softball and baseball teams, as well as his girls and boys track squads. "Since we've been 4A, no school has won all four of the big spring sports. It was a great day -- May 8, 2009 -- an awesome day for Mountain Home sports!"

The girls track teams and softball team are among the favorites to win state titles.

Tiger baseball coach Travis DeVore, after learning of the other teams' success, was also proud to be a part of the Mountain Home sports program.

"Mountain Home's shining bright this year in sports. The football (team) made it to state semi-finals, both the girls and boys basketball teams made it to state, and now this spring, softball, baseball, boys and girls track, some tennis players made it to state, and the golf team -- this is the first year since I've been at Mountain Home that we've had such success.

"It shows the conference that we're for real, so I'm proud of the success of our athletic programs."

In addition, Mountain Home athletic programs also are sending teams to state tennis and golf.

Although a number of individuals from Mountain Home High School have won state championships, and several club sports have won state titles, there are no state championship trophies in the school's trophy case for any of the school's official teams. No one in the school district could identify any point at which an MHHS team has ever won a state championship. The first MHHS graduating class was in 1901.

  • Congradulations to all athletes and good luck at State!

P.S. Nice to see the trophy case at the High School was cleaned up!
