Wednesday, May 6, 2009

UPDATE-Clyde Logan Hoff, 55, of Mountain Home, was arrested Tuesday and charged with manufacturing a controlled substance after Elmore County Sheriff's deputies found what they believe to be a methamphetamine lab in the camp trailer where he was living at 4590 Airbase Rd.

When deputies from the Elmore County Sheriff's Office entered the trailer at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, they observed what they believed to be an operational meth lab.

Idaho State Police Detectives and Idaho State Police Forensic Lab personnel were summoned to the scene to gather evidence.

Also, two HAZMAT personnel came to the scene from Salt Lake City.

"These are very complicated crime scenes and take a great deal of manpower and resources to clean up and properly dispose of the chemicals," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.

Spokesperson also mentioned that "we were on the scene till 3 a.m."

"Mountain Home Fire Department and Ambulance service were with us because of the hazardous materials we were dealing with. It was a state joint effort. We appreciated all the support we got."

Hoff was scheduled to be arraigned today, in Elmore County Magistrate Court on the charges.

The investigation is continuing.

  • Shame on that man. I hope they throw the book at him. All you have to do is see a person's life ruined by drugs and you want to string up somebody like him. It is sad Mountain Home has the reputation it does as being the place to go for meth.

  • I'm sure he'll just get fined and put back out to do it all over again. The reason why Meth is so bad here is because the people making it and the bigtime dealers get only a slap on the wrist the majority of the time, just read the court news.

  • Meth also has hundreds of different recipes and does not demand products like cocaine, heroin, or whatever that cant be obtained from a Home Depot or Wal-Mart. It is relatively easy to produce and those who do use it will go to any length to get it so one does not have to worry about demand. I agree, most addicts lives are never the same. Any solution to the bigger picture would be one that slows the demand for it. Shutting down suppliers is like killing one cockroach and letting the others go.
