Wednesday, April 29, 2009

In a preview of the District III 4A Golf Tournament coming up May 4, all eight conference schools were at Ridgecrest Golf Course in Nampa for the Skyview Invitational on April 21. Ridgecrest is also the site of the District Tournament.

If the Skyview Invitational is any indication, the Mountain Home girls appear in good shape to qualify for state, if they maintain their third-place effort, while the Tiger boys need to improve from their fifth-place effort to make state.

Middleton won the girls competition, shooting a 341. Bishop Kelly was a distant second at 383, 11 shots better than Mountain Home, who turned in a 394 score. Skyview came in at 418, Nampa, at 437, and Columbia 474. Kuna and Emmett did not have complete teams.

Shayla Streeter led Mountain Home with an 88, which tied her for fourth. Alicen Wendall finished ninth with her 96. Kelsey Egusquiza shot a 104, Shelby Stevens carded a 106, and Melanie Bate came in with a 121.

Bishop Kelly won the boys competition, shooting a 313.

Emmett was second with a 327, Middleton, third, with 330, Columbia, three back at 333, Mountain Home shot a 343, Skyview was at 354, Nampa, 367, and Kuna, 406.

Stephen Elliott led Mountain Home with a 79, five shots behind the leader, which tied him for eighth. Zach Pomerantz shot an 84, Travis Goldsby, 87, Michael Heinen, 93, and Tyler Bennett, 94.

The Tiger boys and girls were both at Broadmore on April 20 for a 15-team tourney field, which included a number of 5A schools.

The Tiger boys finished eighth, the girls 11th.

Zach Pomerantz led the Tiger boys with an 82, which tied him for 18th. Tyler Bennett came in with an 85, Travis Goldsby shot an 87, Michael Heinen carded an 89, and Stephen Elliott struggled to a 97.

Mountain Home's number one girls golfer, Shayla Streeter, was disqualified at the Broadmore meet, so their lower finish was due to missing her score.

Alicen Wendall led Mountain Home at Broadmore with a 111, Shelby Stevens came in with a 115, Kelsey Egusquiza shot a 134, and Melanie Bate carded a 139.

Mountain Home's boys and girls were at a conference tourney hosted by Kuna on Monday. On May 4 they will be back at Ridgecrest for the district tournament.
