Tiger golfers show well at tour tournaments

Mountain Home Tiger golfers finished second last Tuesday in conference golf tournaments, and fifth at the Mountain Home Invitational.

The Mountain Home girls finished second behind Middleton at Purple Sage. Shelby Stevens led the Mountain Home girls with a 51, Shayla Streeter finished with a 55, Alicen Wendall had a 57, Kelsey Egusquiza shot a 59, and Melanie Bate carded a 60.

The Tiger boys varsity also played at Purple Sage, and also finished second behind Middleton. The Vikings had a 168 team score, Mountain Home was four back at 172, Columbia shot a 173, and Nampa had a 202 total.

Travis Goldsby led the Tigers, shooting a 39. Tyler Bennett was one back at 40, Zach Pomerantz shot a 45, Stephen Elliott, 48, and Nick Reynolds carded a 51.

The Tiger JV boys were back at Fairview Golf Course, where they finished 14 shots behind Middleton's 160 team score. Columbia was third, with a 184, and Nampa came in with a 221 total.

Gavin Cline and Clint Butori led the Tiger JV with a pair of 42s, Brent Sexauer shot a 44, Jeff Land shot a 46, and Juan Luna, playing his first match of the year, came in with a 50.

"Our JV team has been playing great and really pushing the varsity players," said Tiger golf coach Patrick Starkey. "Day in and day out, guys are fighting for positions on varsity and JV and it's a level of competition between team members that we have not had in a long time."

Last Thursday Mountain Home hosted the Mountain Home Invitational at Desert Canyon Golf Course. There were 23 varsity and junior varsity teams competing. Eagle's JV team actually had the best score of all teams in the tournament, with a 298. Capital had the best varsity score, shooting a 310.

The Mountain Home Tigers finished fifth among the varsity teams, shooting a 331. Travis Goldsby led the Tigers with an 80, Zach Pomerantz shot an 82, Tyler Bennett came in with an 84, Stephen Elliott fired an 85, and Nick Reynolds shot an 88.

Mountain Home had two JV teams entered in the tourney.

The first team shot a 357. Michael Heinen led the way with an 81, Brent Sexauer shot 90, Gavin Cline came in with a 92, Jeff Land shot a 94 and Clint Butori had a 101. The second team came in at 392, and was led by Doug Zielnicki with a 94, Colton Zamora had a 95, Juan Luna came in with a 97 and Adam Rodriguez shot a 106.

The Tigers were at Broadmore on Monday for a meet, and were at Ridgecrest on Tuesday for a pre-district meet.
