Letter to the Editor

Athlete who'll represent Idaho in Australia says thanks to all who helped

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Dear editor:

It has been two months since I received the participation letter from International Sports Specialists Inc to run Cross Country in Australia.

When I first heard about it I told my family, we were all excited but in shock. The reality has hit me and I have been working really hard on raising funds to be able to go on this "once in a lifetime adventure."

I have done well in sports all school year and maintained a high grade point average. I believe in doing well in school and sports. As a freshman, I have lettered in cross country and wrestling.

I hope to be leaving for Australia the first part of July 2009. We will be there for seven days and will go to Hawaii for three days. I have raised half the funds for the trip. Local businesses have helped out along with family and friends.

The deadline for final commitment to participate is May 1, 2009. If you would be interested in making a donation please contact Joseph at 208-587-5931 or you can mail a donation to Joseph Gutierrez, PO Box 405, Mountain Home, ID 83647.

In return for your generous donations, I will give you "thank you" tickets to be put in a drawing to win an all-expense paid trip to Australia and Hawaii.

In closing, I will never forget this chance of a lifetime to represent Idaho and our community. This opportunity may open other doors for me in the future.

Thank you,

Joseph Gutierrez
