Young woman killed in rollover on Highway 67

Thursday, April 16, 2009
Kayley Ann Stachowski, 21, was killed when her vehicle missed a curve on the Grand View highway.

Kayley Ann Stachowski, 21, of Mountain Home, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Grand View Highway at milepost 9.5 early Thursday morning.

A passing motorist spotted the vehicle, which authorities believe may have crashed within 30 minutes of its discovery. Elmore County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the scene at 3:20 a.m.

According to Patrol Deputy Michael Gelalia, the preliminary investigation indicated that Stachowski was traveling northbound on Highway 67 between Grand View and Mountain Home AFB, when she failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. Excessive speed may have been a factor.

Her vehicle, a 2004 Saturn Ion, went off the right shoulder of the roadway, causing it to spin. The vehicle rolled several times, during which Stachowski was ejected. Authorities said it appeared she had not been wearing a seat belt. Her vehicle came to rest about 600 feet from where it left the roadway.

Stachowski, a military dependent, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her parents and husband have been notified.

The accident remains under investigation.

It was the third fatal accident within half a mile of the Simco Road intersection with Highway 67 in the last two years.

Very tragic and very sad. It always tugs at my heart and soul when a life as young as this is lost in any manner. The family will be in my thoughts and prayers for what they have to go through over the coming months and years.
