Tax forms must be in by 5 p.m.

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Residents in the Mountain Home area who file their federal and state income tax returns on April 15 can mail them at the Mountain Home Post Office as late as 5 p.m. and still have them postmarked by that date.

The post offices in Boise will not be extending their hours of operation, but last minute filers can drop their returns at the Boise Post Office Plant at 2201 South Cole Road until midnight. Bulky returns that will require additional postage can be self-weighed and stamps purchased at post office APC machines located at post offices in Cole Village, Five Mile and at the the main post office downtown. The APC machines will be available on April 15 until midnight.

Returns can also be dropped off at the Idaho State Tax Commission, located at 800 Park Blvd. in Plaza IV of the Washington Group Plaza, and will have Tax Commission and Internal Revenue Service employees outside Plaza IV, offering curbside service from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The agencies will accept state and federal returns and will have basic state and federal tax forms available, including federal extension forms.

However, the IRS will not accept returns with payments at this location. Returns with payments can be dropped off at the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in the Federal Building at 550 W. Fort St. in Boise.

In addition to its curbside service at Plaza IV, the Tax Commission's Boise office will extend its hours on April 15 to 6 p.m.

Taxpayers can walk in the office or call 334-7660 to have state tax-related questions answered, pick up tax forms, or make payments or visit the Tax Commission's web site at tax.idaho.gov. The office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Phone hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
