Masonic Saber Lodge #7 Egg Hunt in Carl Miller Park

Easter Sunday afternoon, April 12, will once again find eager children racing through Carl Miller Park searching for Easter eggs hidden by Masonic Sabre Lodge #7.

The egg hunt begins at 2 p.m. and children of all ages may participate.

There is a special area set aside for children under the age of five and another area for children with handicaps.

Children are encouraged to bring their own Easter baskets to collect eggs, but the lodge does provide as many baskets as possible to children who do not have baskets.

Every year since the late 1970s Sabre Lodge #7 has held the egg hunt in Carl Miller Park for the children of Mountain Home.

This year lodge members will cook, dye and hide 140 dozen (1,680) eggs. It takes them about four hours working in the park's cook shack to boil the eggs in a turkey cooker and move them in a container to another turkey cooker with egg dye.

Lodge member J.J. Rentie said, "the really backbreaking work is hiding all those eggs and we always appreciate anyone who comes out to help us with that."

Along with all those eggs are five plastic eggs containing a certificate for one silver dollar.

Rente noted that the lodge could not put on the event without the contributions they receive from community merchants and organizations.

He said that Albertson's and Paul's markets donate a matching amount of eggs that the lodge purchases. Parks and Recreation helps set up the park facilities at no cost and Maverick, Walmart and the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce also contribute.
