Planes taxi to your home at Red Baron Estates

Wednesday, February 4, 2009
At Red Baron estates, each house has its own "hanger" for the airplanes residents they own.

Frank Brady grew up wanting to fly, but since he was one of nine kids, his family just didn't have the resources to turn his dream into a reality.

Ten years ago, as the owner of his own sheet metal shop, Brady decided the time was right to finally learn how to fly. With his wife's blessing, he began to take flying lessons.

Today Brady said he flies close to 100 hours a year. He is currently building his own plane and it's no secret where he wants to keep it once it's completed.

"I want to live by my airplane," Brady said.

He will keep his plane in a hanger currently being constructed in his backyard.

Brady's desire to live close to his plane is exactly what Ken Carper was banking on when he got the idea for the Red Baron Estates.

Red Baron Estates is a home owners' association a few miles east of the Stage Stop with an added feature not found in most subdivisions -- the 2,850-foot by 50-foot runway that runs though middle of the neighborhood.

Homes have hangers attached or close to them, which could be mistaken for over-sized garages. In addition to the roads that run though the airpark, taxi-ways run from hangers to the runway. See the mountainhomenews for the complete story.
