Rex Jeffery Chafin, 53, formerly of Glenns Ferry, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at University of Utah Hospital with his mother, wife and children by his side.

Services and viewing were held Dec. 30 at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel. Services were under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel.

Rex was born on Jan. 21, 1955 to Thomas A. Chafin and Mary Jane Holmes in Twin Falls. He was raised and attend school in Glenns Ferry.

Rex was involved in several school activities including football, basketball, student council, chorus and played saxophone in the band.

After high school, Rex served three years in the Army.

In 1980, Rex, Sheila and son Shawn were joined in marriage in King Hill. Rex and Shelia had two daughters and raised them in Meridian.

He attended journeymen plumbing school and worked at several companies in the area.

"He was a very hard worker with incredible work ethic and was admired and respected by many," his family said.

"Rex enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and exploring new areas of Idaho. He enjoyed music, played drums and saxophone and had dreamed about starting a family band.

"Rex always had a project he was working on and was a self-proclaimed movie critic. Anyone who knows Rex would agree that he loved telling stories and sharing his knowledge to anyone that would listen. He had the best witty sense of humor and was often the unexpected comic relief," family members said.

He is survived by: his wife, Sheila; daughters Sarah and Amanda and son-in-law Chris; mother Mary; stepmother Elaine; brother Danny and wife Shirley; sister Janie; sister-in-law Josie, and many nieces and nephews.
