Talkin' Tigers win another speech/debate tourney

The Mountain Home Talkin' Tigers won their second straight speech/debate tournament last weekend as they edged arch rival Eagle High School to win the Columbia High School Speech Tournament.

The Talkin' Tigers defeated 14 other high schools in winning their second straight tournament.

Eagle finished second with Bishop Kelly High School a distant third.

Two weeks earlier, Mountain Home won the Twin Falls Invitation Speech and Debate Tournament.

The Tigers were led by team captain Eli Holland, who won two events, Retold Story and Humorous Interpretation. Holland, a senior has won many speech events this year, but this is the first tournament where he won both of his events.

In all, The Talkin Tigers won seven events.

Novice Expository Speaking --1st, Betsy Lynn (freshman); 4th, Thea LeFevre (sophomore); 5th, Christina Trouten (freshman).

Duo Interpretation -- 1st, Chase Bennett (sophomore) and Yrsa Moe (sophomore).

Novice Radio -- 1st, Austin Young (freshman); 2nd, Ron Hurley (freshman); 4th, Dani Lord (junior).

Retold Story -- 1st, Eli Holland (senior); 2nd, Alycia Crandall (junior); 4th, Bridget Sinerius (junior).

Novice Retold Story -- 1st, Alyssa Cannavo (freshman); 4th, Stephanie Davis (freshman).

Novice Panel Discussion -- 1st, Hayley Schafer (sophomore); 3rd, Liz Cook (freshman).

Panel Discussion -- 5th, Jacob Larsen (sophomore).

Original Oratory -- 5th, Fallyn Wadsworth (sophomore).

Novice Original Oratory -- 4th, Thea LeFevre (sophomore); 5th, Stephanie Jewell (freshman).

Serious Interpretation -- 1st, Bridget Sinerius (junior); 2nd, Melodie Lettkeman (sophomore).

Novice Serious Interpretation -- 1st, Dani Lord (junior); 5th, Cristina Trouten (freshman).

Humorous Interpretation -- 1st, Eli Holland (senior); 5th, Megan Gregory (junior).
