Over 1,600 dozen cookies sought for base cookie drive

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

The 366th Fighter Wing's Annual Holiday Cookie Drive will take place during the first part of December to provide Airmen deployed from Mountain Home Air Force Base and dorm residents a taste of home in the form of a dozen cookies this holiday season.

"The holiday cookie drive is a long-standing Air Force tradition," said Alison Browne, cookie drive coordinator. "It's a great opportunity for the wing and local community to say thank you for our Airmen's service."

The holiday cookie drive runs off donations and volunteers and accepts both cookies and monetary contributions. Cookies will be collected Dec. 8 at the commissary from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. with packaging running from 8 a.m. to noon. Early deliveries can be made Dec. 1 through 6 at the Paul's Market and Albertson's in Mountain Home or the base exchange or Gunfighter Club on base.

"This year is going to be the largest cookie drive ever," said Mrs. Browne. "We need 1,600 dozen cookies this year. I asked the question if our Airmen really wanted the cookies and the response was an overwhelming yes!"

In addition to cookies, homemade holiday cards will be attached to each package. Cards will be collected at both the base and Mountain Home libraries until Dec. 4 and should be 5 and a half by 8 inches or smaller.

First Sergeants will distribute cookies to dorm residents and send others to deployed Gunfighters. Some packages will also be distributed to Airmen working on Christmas day.

For more information or to volunteer to package cookies, contact Mrs. Browne at 828-3661 or M.J. Maxwell at 828-3665. E-mails can also be sent to mountainhomeholidaycookiedrive@hotmail.com.
