Mountain Home JV girls beat Jerome

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers junior varsity basketball team has one win to their credit after their first four ballgames.

Mountain Home opened their junior varsity basketball season against Mountain View on Nov. 15, losing to the Lady Mavericks 50-27.

Slow starts in both the first and third quarters proved to be Mountain Home's downfall against the Lady Mavericks, who outscored Mountain Home 25-6 in the first and third periods.

The second and fourth quarters were much closer, with Mountain View outscoring the Lady Tigers just 25-21.

Jessica Liercke led Mountain Home in scoring with eight points, Trista Stepp added seven. Amanda Osborn scored four points, Jennica Quintal, Arlene Futch, Fatima Guillen and Lindsay Sessions each scored two points.

Jerome 29

The Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the season last Tuesday, beating Jerome 37-29 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead, led 24-13 at the half and 32-15 after three.

Jerome rallied for 14 points in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Mountain Home held on for a 37-29 win.

Jessica Liercke led Mountain Home in scoring with 14 points, Arlene Futch added seven, Amanda Osborn, six, Fatima Guillen, four, Jennica Quintal, three, Keesha Janis, two, and Trista Stepp, one.

Timberline 52

Timberline outscored the Lady Tigers 26-10 in the middle quarters to pull away with a 52-31 win over Mountain Home last Thursday night at Timberline High School in Boise.

Mountain Home trailed the Lady Wolves just 13-9 after one but fell behind 25-11 at the half. It was 39-19, Timberline, after three.

Jessica Liercke led Mountain Home's scoring attack with 12 points. Arlene Futch added six, Keesha Janis, five, Amanda Osborn, four, Jennica Quintal and Fatima Guillen both scored two points.

Wood River 35

Mountain Home battled tough, but came up a bit short against Wood River last Saturday afternoon, losing 35-32 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

Mountain Home fell behind 8-0 in the first quarter, not scoring until a trey by Lindsay Sessions with 3:27 left in the quarter. They trailed 9-4 going into the second period.

The Lady Tigers battled to within two points, at 13-11, with 1:50 left before halftime, but fell behind 18-12 at the half.

Mountain Home fell behind by 12 points midway through the third quarter, but battled back to within six, 29-23, heading into the fourth quarter.

Keesha Janis scored to bring the Lady Tigers to within three at 33-30 with 3:14 left in the game. Trista Stepp hit one of two free throws with 2:42 left to bring Mountain Home within two, 33-31.

Wood River than moved the ball around to take time off the clock and missed four free throws, but Mountain Home was not able to score again until Keesha Janis hit one of two free throws with 11 seconds left to make it a one-point ball game, 33-32.

Wood River than hit two clutch free throws to make it a 35-32 Wood River win.

Arlene Futch led the Mountain Home scoring with nine points, Keesha Janis and Jessica Liercke both added seven, Lindsay Sessions scored five, Jennica Quintal and Trista Stepp both added two.

The loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 1-3 on the season. They have this week off, returning to action next week with conference games against Bishop Kelly and Middleton on Tuesday and Thursday, and an afternoon game Saturday at Jerome.
