Borgholthaus to celebrate 40 years of teaching

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Grace Montessori School will hold a reception in honor of Page Borgholthaus, who is celebrating 40 years in traditional Montessori education.

An open house will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, from 4-6 p.m. at Grace Montessori School, 685 S. 3rd West St.

Refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres will be served. Borgholthaus opened a kindergarten in 1968 in Mountain Home before the advent of public kindergarten in Idaho. She received her Montessori diploma through St. Nicholas Training Center in London and the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1972. At that time, she transformed the curriculum at her school into the traditional Montessori educational method.

She began to enroll younger students and eventually added a specially designed program for toddlers she named Basic Trust. Grace Montessori School continues that program today.

After Borgholthaus sold the school in 1990 to Joanne Johnson, she continued to serve children in various educational endeavors including as a Child Development Associate, and with Child Care Connections, Parents as Teachers for the Mountain Home School District, and most recently with Idaho Stars assessing early childhood programs throughout Idaho.

The celebration seeks to recognize and pay tribute to her lifelong work.

  • What a wonderful and accomplished woman. I will always remember Page as one of my favorite teachers, and I will always look to her as an exemplary role model for teaching and a tremendous influence on my life. Thank you Page!
