City finances remain strong despite economy

Thursday, November 6, 2008

The City of Mountain Home's financial condition is still strong despite the recent economic turmoil.

City treasurer Leanna Whitney said that is because of the city's long-standing efforts to be conservative and to plan for emergencies.

She credited the mayor and city council for that.

"Through the years, the mayor and council have been forward thinking to make sure there is an adequate safety net in the budget to account for emergencies and a cash balance that can carry the city through unexpected times," Whitney said.

  • I happened to be there for the meeting when all of this was explained...I was really impressed. Read the entire article.

What the city has done not only to protect itself (us) financially as well as help shore up local banks and other enterprizes is amazing. Mayor Rist and the city council have my utmost thanks and respect. They were farsighted enough to prevent bad things from happening.
