Salvation Army store to close

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

After nearly two decades in the community, the Mountain Home branch store of the Salvation Army will close its doors Aug. 21.

"Every program closure is taken seriously as we take into consideration the impact that removing the program will have on the community," Captain Daniel Freeman, Treasure Valley Coordinator for The Salvation Army, said.

"It is the intention of our thrift stores to generate revenue, which will support The Salvation Army's other programs. Unfortunately, we have not been able to make this thrift store successful in doing so."

The store is the only store in the Ontario to Mountain Home area set for closure.

  • Well, I am not shocked that this store is closing due to not generating enough revenue to be successful. Their prices were ridiculously high for USED stuff. They did not dicker at all. When I went looking for a bed frame they had a banged up one for $49. Demeyers had a brand new one for $49. Where would you buy yours from? The same place I ended up buying mine...demeyers!

  • Why didn't they try lowering the prices to get more business? Great, another local business down the drain, another building to sit and rot.
