12U Sting team wins state

The Mountain Home 12U Sting fast pitch became 2008 Idaho Babe Ruth State Championships July 11-12. The Sting faced four other teams in their division to capture the title with a record of 4-1.

Throughout the tournament, the Sting held their competitors to only 47 runs while they racked up a total of 90 runs in five games over the weekend.

Every girl on the team had multiple hits with Meaghan Pomerantz, Maddie Karst and Kelly Elliott having triples. Tessa Pachner, Angie Shockey, CJ Bish, Caitlyn Sheehy, Morgan Vivier and Makenzie Carle had doubles. Heather Adams hit two inside-the-park home runs.

The Sting defense put up a strong force with Sheehy having nine put outs, Carle having an unassisted double play at third and Elliott and Pachner catching pop flies in the outfield at crunch times.

Vivier and Bish stayed strong behind the plate as catchers for pitchers Adams and Karst.

Pomerantz assisted in multiple put outs at second base and Shockey had a strong showing in the outfield.

The Sting began regional play Tuesday for the chance to advance to the Babe Ruth Softball World Series.
