Fish or cut bate

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Both presidential campaigns are now in high gear and both candidates spent last week rolling out their economic proposals for the voters to consider.

The problem, as we see it, is that we need solutions now, not a year from now after they've been elected.

From rising energy and food costs to the growing crisis in the housing and banking industries (a result of hubris and greed by financial institutions and deregulation and lack of adequate oversight by the current administration), this nation is facing it's most severe economic regression/recession since the Great Depression. But all we're getting right now is window dressing and calls for already strapped taxpayers to bail out the rich again.

What we need are clear and concrete proposals that will address both immediate and long-term needs. Now, more than ever, we need the two candidates to come forward with specific plans, and act on them immediately. Both men are serving United States senators. It is well within their power to introduce the legislation now that they are proposing to put into effect after they get elected. If they really have an actual plan, then they should be able to do that, and we challenge them to do so.

There is no time to wait. It is time to fish or cut bait. If they are serious, and really know what they want to do, then they can begin to lead us out of this economic crisis now. The candidate that takes up this challenge now is the one that will demonstrate an ability to act, and will be the one that deserves your vote in the fall.
