MHHS Booster Club suspends effort

Monday, July 14, 2008

A lack of active members has forced the Mountain Home High School Booster Club to go "on hiatus until such time as parents wish to activate the club again," according to Tami Downen, sponsorship coordinator for the group.

In addition to Downen, the group is led by President Robert Daniels, Treasurer Teresa Dodge, and Secretary Terri Exon.

"Over the past year, the board members were the only participating members of the club. As of now, the club has no members and no individuals willing to take the place of the current board," Downen said.

"The current board has decided to place the club on hiatus until individuals decide they would like to make the club active once again. There is currently a small amount of apparel that can be used to begin selling merchandise until the new members decide what they would like to sell."

The role of the booster club has been to enhance student participation in sporting activities by assisting with a monetary donation to the end of the season banquets, provide scholarships to student athletes, selling Tiger merchandise to increase school spirit and hold tailgate parties before the home football games to also increase school spirit.

The booster club also provides corsages and root beer to the senior parents for "mum and pop night" on the athletes' senior nights.

"We feel that the booster club has and can once again enhance the student athlete's participation and increase school spirit overall. If anyone wishes to activate the booster club, please contact one of the prior board members. We would be glad to assist getting them any information they may need and help them get the club off and running once again.

"We would also like to thank the many business sponsors we have had over the last several years. Without your support, we could not have helped out our local student athletes," Downen said.

For more information about re-activating the club contact Downen at 590-0208, Exon at 590-1905, or Dodge at 867-5424.

  • And where are all of the parents that were so hot to get the bond passed for a mega gym, etc.? You are so willing to pay higher taxes in the name of athletics and your kid's(s') education but you have no time as parents to provide support to the school. So, now a good program is gone until "new" parents are willing to step up to the plate. Charity begins at home folks not in the hands of tax payers.
