The Mountain Home Tiger girls track squad made a strong surge that separated them from Jerome and the remainder of the field at the State 4A Girls Track & Field Championships at Boise State University on Friday.

The only team they were unable to overcome was defending champion Rigby, which won the numbers game to win again.

Rigby rolled up 126 points to repeat as champions. Mountain Home came in second with 90 points. Jerome was a distant third with 71, Lakeland was fourth with 62, Emmett claimed fifth, with 61.5, Bishop Kelly was sixth with 45.5, Preston was next with 44, followed by Sandpoint, 39, Century, 38, Middleton, 33, Burley, 16, Skyview and Minico, both 15, Moscow, 14, Bonneville and Columbia, 10, Wood River, Kuna and Pocatello, 3, and Hillcrest, 2.

Kristie Sigloh won a gold medal in the 200-meter dash, and was also a member of the gold-winning 4x200 relay team. Other members of the 4x200-meter relay team were Angelica Rios, Sherica Holmon and Lauren Moore.

Rios, Holman, Jessica Liercke and Emily Moranda made up the Mountain Home 4x100-meter relay team that also won gold.

Emily Moranda had second-place efforts in the 100-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. She was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished fifth.

Haley Schaefer finished second in the 800 and sixth in the 1600-meter run.

Jessica Liercke finished second in the triple jump.

Sherica Holmon finished third in the 100 meters, and teamed with Rios, Moore and Francesca Hale to take fourth in the medley relay.

Jasmyn Jewett had fourth-place efforts in both the triple jump and the long jump.

Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi was pleased with the effort by his girls.

"They ran really hard. Our seniors, Sherica scored in the 100, and was in both relays that won state championships. They ran really well, and Kristi Sigloh, she was in one of the relays that won, the 4 by 200, and then she won the 200 -- she had an awesome race, she really stepped up, she did a great job!

"Emily got two second places in the hurdles, and was in one of the winning relays.

"I was really pleased with everybody's effort. Our freshmen, Jessica (Liercke) got second in the triple jump and Haley (Schaefer) got second in the 800, so everybody contributed, and all the coaches, we're really excited. They had a great season and that was one of our goals, to bring home a trophy, and second place is awesome. It was exciting for everybody."

Moscow edged Jerome 75-74 for the 4A State boys title, with Columbia in third with 71 points. Pocatello placed fourth with 66, just ahead of Hillcrest's 62, with Nampa a distant sixth with 39, just ahead of Kuna's 38, and Rigby, Skyview and Middleton closed out the top 10, all with 25 points. Blackfoot was 11th with 24, with Lakeland, Burley and Minico tied for 12th with 23 points. Century was 15th with 20, Sandpoint, 16th with 19, Preston, 17th with 18, Bonneville, 18th with 15, Mountain Home, 19th with 12, followed by Bishop Kelly and Wood River, 11, and Emmett, 2.

Mountain Home's highest point total was the 4x200-meter relay, where Tallon Pauly, Kyle Kerfoot, Jacob Viola and Nick Barrie finished fifth.

Jacob Viola came in sixth in the 100 meters.

Garrett Wood finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles, and Nick Barrie was seventh in the long jump.

Stefen White finished eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles.

"Our relay placed fifth -- the 4 by 200 -- they ran really well and that was great for them," said Coach Urquidi.

"We had a couple guys that made the finals -- Sefen (White) made the finals in the high hurdles and Garrett (Wood) made the finals in the intermediate hurdles, so they ran really well, too.

"We were pretty young. Nick (Barrie) was our only senior and was on the relay that medaled, so we're looking for some good things from them next year, and it's the same thing with our girls -- we just lost the two seniors, who certainly helped build our program and we're certainly going to miss them, as we'll miss Nick, too -- but we're looking forward to continuing our success."
