Roadwork to begin on American Legion

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

A project will start Tuesday, May 27, to rehabilitate about 3/4-mile of American Legion Boulevard in Mountain Home, the Idaho Transportation Department announced Wednesday.

The pavement rehabilitation will extend the life of the roadway, which is owned by the state of Idaho, not the city.

The road was originally built in 1960, with only periodic improvements since.

The project also will upgrade substandard pedestrian ramps at nine intersections, in accordance with ADA (American with Disabilities Act) guidelines.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane between North 2nd East Street and North 14th East Street.

Motorists will be assisted through the work zone by flaggers at North 2nd East, South 3rd East, North 10th East and North 14th East.

Knife River of Bismark, N.D. is the contractor on the $546,405 project.

The project is scheduled for completion in mid-July.

  • Hallelujah. Finally, a tax spending project I'm on board with.

  • It is nice to know that they gave the business to a company outside of ID. Maybe the flag people will be local.

It is nice that they will repair the road.

  • I hope when they finish paving they will NOT put those little markers in the road. Last time they lasted about a week.

  • The markers have been placed in the road to help remind drivers to number 1 slow down and obey the speed limits, and number two to stop and yield to pedistrians while they are preparing to enter/while they are in/and when they are exiting the crosswalks. There are lots of children who cross American Legion at several places on their way to and from school each day. The markers appear to be doing what they were intended to do, both on American Legion and on Main Street.

If you have questions or concerns you are welcome to contact the Street Deparment with the City of Mountain Home or the Traffic Safety Board which meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at City Hall in Mountain Home at 6:00pm.

Please remember that American Legion is a State road and the contract for the work to be done was awarded through the Idaho Transportation Department, not the City of Mountain Home. It was not the local elected officials who chose the contractor.

  • Cool Runnings - I don't think R&M was talking about the markers for the pedestians. I think R&M was referring to the little things that were actually attached to the road that showed where your lines in the street were.

  • Oh, that would make a bit more sense. I do seem to recall those lane markers didn't stay in place very long.

    Thank you.

  • Knife River was a good choice for this project. I'm sure that the local contractor

(monopoly) would have charged twice as much.

The road certainly needs the repair.
