The Mountain Home Tiger girls track team won the District III 4A Track & Field title at Mountain Home Friday. The Tiger boys came in sixth.

Mountain Home won the girls title, picking up six firsts and six seconds to run up 154.5 points. Bishop Kelly was second with 138. Emmett came in third with 118, followed by Middleton, 91, Kuna, 73, Skyview, 64, Columbia, 51.5, and Nampa, 3.

Emily Moranda qualified for state in four events. She will compete in both hurdle events (she won the 100-meter high hurdles), the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

Kristie Sigloh will compete in the 200 meters (which she won), the long jump, the 4x200 relay and the 4x400 relay.

Angelica Rios will compete in the 100 meters, medley relay, 4x100 relay and 4x200-meter relay.

Sherica Holmon will be competing in the 100 meters, the medley relay, the 4x200 relay and 4x400 relay.

Haley Schaefer will be competing in the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

Francesca Hale will be competing in the 300-meter hurdles (which she won), the medley relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

Jessica Liercke will be competing in the 100 and 200 meters and the 4x100 relay.

Lauren Moore will be running the 4 by 200 relay, the 4x400 relay and the medley relay.

Jordan Vivier will be competing in the pole vault.

The girls qualified in all four relays, and the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams both broke their own school records, and the 4x100-meter relay team was 0.1 second off the record.

Columbia won the boys competition with 152.5 points. Middleton was second with 111.33, Skyview, third with 103.83, Nampa, fourth with 102, Kuna, fifth with 90, Mountain Home, sixth, with 73.33, followed by Emmett, 44, and Bishop Kelly, 23.

Mountain Home's boys had two second-place efforts at district, as Billy Derome placed second in the discus, and Jacob Viola was second in the 100 meters, both qualifying for state in those events. Viola is also a member of the 4x200-meter relay team that qualified.

Other qualifiers include Garrett Wood in both hurdle events, Nick Barrie in the long jump and 4x200-meter relay, Tallon Pauly in the 200 and 4x200-meter relay, Kyle Kerfoot in the 4x200 relay, Stefen White in the 110-meter high hurdles, Zack Wegrzyniak in the discus, and Jovanne Carrizales in the 3200-meter run.

Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi was pleased with their efforts at district.

"It was exciting. The girls, they ran awesome. To win the district title at home, it's exciting for all of them, and they rally shined. They did everything that the coaches asked them to do, and it was fun to watch them. All four of our relays -- that was one of our goals at the beginning of the year and all four of them qualified automatically, and out of the 18 events, 15 are filled, so they did a good job.

"On the boys side, they scored 73 points, which they ended up getting sixth place, but I thought that was really good for them. We've got quite a few of the boys through (to state). They're pretty young -- we only lose a couple seniors, so they're up and coming."

The State Track and Field Championships are Thursday and Friday at Bronco Stadium in Boise. Coach Urquidi looks for some good things there.

"You never know what's going to happen, but if we stay where we are -- I think in their seeding, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to bring home a trophy. There's a couple tough teams in the east. I think Rigby, they did really well last year and they qualified a ton of girls, so I think they're going to be the team to beat, and in the boys, I think we'll get some places in there.

"Not getting Tyree (Harmon) in, that kind of hurt. I feel bad for him, he fell in the hurdles, and he had the fastest time going in the state, but it's just one of those things that happen. Luckily, he wasn't a senior, so he gets to come back and try to do that again for next year."
