Boys tennis team nets 3 wins

The Mountain Home Tiger tennis team closed out its regular season play on a high note last week with three wins for the Tiger boys and a strong showing by the girls.

The Tiger boys picked up another win over Minico in a match played last Monday at the airbase.

The Tigers swept through the boys singles, with Ricky Guadarrama winning the #1 match, 6-2, 7-5, Chris Oswald won the #2 match, 6-0, 6-3, and Andrew Martin prevailed at #3, 7-5, 6-1.

The Tigers split the boys doubles, as Jordan Niksich and Joey Miller lost the #1 match, 4-6, 0-6, but Keth Galloway and Bryan Walsh won the #2, 7-6 (TB 7-1), 6-4.

The Tigers boys other point came in the #2 mixed doubles match, as Collin Smith and Carina Sauter won, 6-2, 6-1. Greg Walsh and Lindsey Kellerman lost the #1 mixed doubles match in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 3-6.

Laura Porter picked up the only girls win, winning the #3 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Jessica Lewis lost the #1 singles match, 3-6, 1-6, and Bethany Johns lost the #2 in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 3-6.

"Bethany battled hard but couldn't hold off a comeback bid," said Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "Laura came back at #3 after losing the first set to take the next two. Both did a great job!"

The Tiger boys won both their doubles match and two of three singles matches to pull off the win. Ricky Guadarrama lost a tough two and a half hour three-set match in the #1 singles match, 7-5, 5-7, 3-6. Chris Oswald won the #2 match, 6-2, 6-4, and Andrew Martin won at #3, 7-6 (TB 7-5), 6-4.

In boys doubles, Jordan Niksich and Joey Miller blanked their #1 opponents, 6-0, 6-0, and Keth Galloway and Bryan Walsh won the #2 match, 6-4, 6-3.

In girls singles, Lauren Borgholthaus lost the #1 match, 6-2, 4-6, 3-6, Caitlyn Smith lost the #2 match, 0-6, 0-6, and Hanna Smith lost the #3 match, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6.

In girls doubles, Carolyn Bailey and Brittany Crownhart battled three sets before losing the #1 match, 3-6, 6-2, 1-6, and Allyanna Wintermote and Danielle Gorman lost the #2, 1-6, 2-6.

Mountain Home dropped both mixed doubles matches, as Reg Walsh and Lindsey Kellerman lost, 2-6, 4-6, and Brandt Buckner and Carina Sauter lost, 3-6, 4-6.

Saturday was Senior Day and all of the senior matches were played in town at Richard Aguirre Park, while the rest of the varsity and JV matches were at the airbase.

Tiger senior Ricky Guadarrama won the #1 boys singles match, 6-0, 6-2, Andrew Martin won the #2 match, 6-1, 6-1, and Burley defaulted at #3.

In the boys doubles, Jordan Niksich and Joey Miller lost the #1 match in a close battle, 5-7, 4-6, while Keth Galloway and Bryan Walsh won the #2 match, 6-1, 7-6 (TB 10-8).

In girls singles, Jessica Lewis lost a tough fight in the #1 match, 3-6, 4-6, Lauren Borgholthaus dropped the #2 match, 2-6, 1-6, and Hanna Smith won the #3 match, 6-2, 6-4.

In girls doubles, Carolyn Bailey and Brittany Crownhart lost a heartbreaker at #1, 5-7, 7-6 (TB 7-2), 6-7 (TB 6-8), and Allyanna Wintermote and Danielle Gorman lost the #2 match in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.

"All four girls are beginners, but the way they played on Saturday, I think they just broke through the 'ceiling' to the next skill level," said Coach House.

Mountain Home dropped both mixed doubles matches, as Collin Smith and Lindsey Kellerman lost the #1 match, 1-6, 3-6, and Brandt Buckner and Carina Sauter lost the #2, 3-6, 2-6.

Mountain Home hosted the District III 4A Junior Varsity Tennis Tournament on Monday in town and on the airbase. The Varsity District Tournament starts Thursday at Vallivue, Caldwell and Vallivue Middle School courts, and runs through Saturday.
