The Mountain Home girls track team won the quadrangular track meet at Columbia last Friday, while the Tiger boys finished in third place.

Mountain Home had 10 first place finishes in racking up 93 points in the girls competition. Middleton was second with 70, Bishop Kelly had 61, and Columbia, 43.

Emily Moranda was a double winner for Mountain Home, winning both hurdle events. She also was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay team, along with Angelica Rios, Sherica Holmon and Jessica Liercke, and was on the 4x400-meter relay team (along with Francessca Hale, Kristie Sigloh and Lauren Moore) that came in second.

Sherica Holmon won the 100-meter dash, and, besides the 4x100-meter relay, was also a part of the winning 4x200-meter relay (with Rios, Moore and Sigloh) and the 800-meter sprint medley relay (with Claudia Bermensolo, Moore and Hale).

Haley Schaefer won the 800-meter run, and finished third in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

Jasmyn Jewett won the triple jump and finished third in the long jump.

Shelby Posey won the shot put and was second in the discus.

Kristie Sigloh won the 200-meter dash and was fourth in the long jump.

Jessica Liercke had seconds in the 200 meters and triple jump, and Angelica Rios was second in the 100-meter dash.

Jordan Vivier was fifth in the 1600-meter run, and Brittany Orie was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Columbia won the boys competition in a close fight, scoring 92 points, Middleton was next with 87, Mountain Home had 76, and Bishop Kelly, 16.

Garrett Wood was a double winner for Mountain Home, winning the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault, finishing fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Tyree Harmon won the 110-meter high hurdles and was third in the long jump.

Mountain Home also won the 4x200-meter relay (Jacob Viola, Kyle Kerfoot, Tallon Pauly and Nick Barrie).

Nick Barrie had second-place efforts in the long jump and triple jump, and was also a member of the second place 4x100-meter relay team along with Viola, Kerfoot and Pauly. Billy Derome had second-place efforts in the shot put and discus, and Jacob Viola had a second in the 100 meters and a third in the discus.

Tallon Pauly was third in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100.

Jovanne Carrizales was third in the 3200-meter run, and also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team, along with DeVonte McClain, Jacob Allies and David Tidwell.

Mountain Home was also third in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay. That team was made up of Tommy Miller, Layne Campos, Jacob Allies and DeVonte McClain.

Fourth-place efforts went to Jesus Juarez in the 3200-meter run, Stefen White in the 110-meter high hurdles and Jake Lewis in the discus. Chris Billinger was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Mountain Home Tigers head track coach Rich Urquidi was pleased with the teams' efforts at the meet.

"I thought that was a pretty big meet. Middleton and BK are some of the top girls teams, and we ended up winning that one, and in the boys, Columbia and Middleton, they're both really tough, and I thought our boys did really well. We didn't win, but we placed in some things and I was really pleased with their efforts, also.

"The girls are setting themselves up in good shape for districts, so we're looking forward to that in a couple of weeks. I think our relays are pretty much set. We've been working all year to get that done, and our girls' 4x200 (relay) broke the school record again, and the 4x100 improved again. I think that was their best time of the year. We're getting our other relays down there, too."

The Tigers go to Jerome this Friday for a track meet, which Coach Urquidi likes as it will give him a chance to get a look at some other teams.

"We'll see some different people and come back and get ready for district here at home."

Mountain Home will host the District III 4A Track and Field Meet May 15-16.
