Doris D. Davis, 93, of Hammett, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at a local care facility.

A viewing was held on Tuesday, April 29, from 5-7 p.m. at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, with a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. and funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Glenns Ferry. Burial will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.

Doris was born on May 7, 1914, in Rigby. She was the eldest daughter of Earl G. Hill and Polly M. Whittaker. She was joined in the family by her sisters: May, Cora, Audrey and Loretta, and her brother, Asiel. At a young age her family moved to Hammett in a sheep wagon. She went to school in the "Old" Hammett schoolhouse from second through twelfth grade.

Doris met the love of her life, George Davis, in Hammett, her family said. "He came into her life riding a big black horse." They eloped to Mountain Home on Sept. 20, 1933. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on Feb. 26, 1954. They had three children.

Doris was active in the LDS Church, holding numerous jobs as well as servicing a stake mission and serving in the Boise Temple for several years after it opened.

"Doris never met a stranger, always willing to give you a helping hand whether it be a hand shake, a big hug, a hot meal or help with a fussy baby," her family said.

Doris is survived by: her daughter, Le Ann, and her husband, William Schweikert, of Mountain Home; her son, Dean Davis, of Boise; her sister, Audrey McAnalty, of Glenns Ferry, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, a son, John, two granddaughters, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
