JV boys end season with district loss

The Mountain Home Tiger junior varsity basketball team closed out its regular season boys basketball schedule with a win at Columbia, but dropped the opening game of the District III 4A JV Tournament.

Mountain Home held the Wildcats scoreless over the last six minutes of the ball game to pull away for a 50-35 win last Tuesday night at Columbia.

The lead went back and forth in the first quarter, with Columbia on top, 14-12, after a quarter.

The defenses took over in the second quarter, with Mountain Home slipping ahead to a 21-18 halftime lead.

Mountain Home stretched their lead to 10 points with less than three minutes left in the third quarter, and led, 36-29, heading into the fourth.

Columbia clawed back within four on a couple occasions early in the fourth, and trailed the Tigers, 40-35 with 6:10 left. Mountain Home held them scoreless the rest of the way as the Tigers scored the final 10 points of the game to win it 50-35.

D.J. Elliott led the Tigers with 12 points, Trevor Woodruff netted nine. Logan Monasterio added eight, Dallin Dean, seven, Jared Sexauer, six, Greg Walsh and Daniel Bideganeta had three each, and Gabe Anderson had two points.

The Tigers opened the District III 4A JV Tournament at Kuna against Emmett. Emmett was seeded fifth, the Tigers fourth.

The Tigers dug themselves a hole early and never really were able to come back, losing 68-41.

Mountain Home, playing the first game of the tournament at 9 a.m., had trouble getting going, and trailed 19-8 after a quarter.

The second quarter saw the Tigers score 15 points, but Emmett put through 21 to stretch their lead to 40-23 at the half.

Emmett stretched their lead to 54-34, after three, and went on to a 68-41 win.

D.J. Elliott led the Tigers in scoring with 10 points. Gabe Anderson added eight, Trevor Woodruff and Logan Monasterio both scored seven, Corey Hurley added five points, Dallen Dean, four.

The loss ended the Tigers season in the single elimination tournament.
