Raiders district action could place them in State Tourney

The Rimrock Raiders came up short against Cascade in their District III 1A Tourney opener, but bounced back to defeat Horseshoe Bend.

Cascade - 40

Rimrock - 39

After winning their play-in game against Tri-Valley, Rimrock faced Cascade in the first round of the District Tourney at Emmett on February 14. It was a battle to the end, and the Raiders fell a point short, losing to the Ramblers, 40-39.

The first quarter ended with the score tied at 8-8. Cascade managed two more points in the second quarter to go into the locker room at halftime up 17-15.

The teams continued to battle in the third quarter, with Cascade maintaining their two-point lead, 28-26, heading into the final quarter.

The Raiders had their chances in the fourth but came up a point short, losing, 40-39 to the Ramblers.

"We had our opportunities to put that game away, it just wasn't our night," said Rimrock boys basketball coach Gary Jones. "We missed a lot of front-ends of one-and-ones down the stretch in the fourth quarter, and they got us by one."

Sam Richardson led the Raiders in scoring with 13 points; Logan Thomas added 12. Chris Hipwell scored nine; T.J. Snyder, three, and Cole Merrick, two.

Rimrock - 47

HSB - 32

The Raiders faced Horseshoe Bend in the consolation bracket on February 15 and, like they had done twice during the regular season, Rimrock came away with a win, 47-32.

The Raiders shot out to a 10-3 lead after a quarter, and led 15-12 at the half. Rimrock exploded for 23 points in the third to go up 38-22, and won easily.

Chris Hipwell and Logan Thomas both scored 12 points to lead the Raiders; Thomas had 16 rebounds, and Hipwell, a team-high four assists.

Sam Richardson added 11 points; Alan Draper, seven, and Cole Merrick and T.J. Snyder both scored two points.

The win advanced the Raiders to a game on February 20 against Wilder. A win there would put them in the third place game, which would earn them a berth at State.
