School bond should be broken into several parts

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Dear editor:

I have received many comments on my letter regarding the school bond election, and most are good and valid comments.

The issue still remains one of choice.

With one bond it is all or nothing, with what I purpose, it is two bonds with four possible results.

With two bonds a person could vote for core curriculum facilities improvements, vote for extra-curricular facilities improvements, or vote yes or no for both. This gives the voter four results, three of which improve the funding for the school or school related facilities.

We as a society make these choices all the time. If asked if geography or geology is of more value to society we would have differing opinions. If we are asked if these topics are of value to society we would get a positive response. The same is true about dance, math, typing, sports, band, computer, or auto mechanics.

If Mountain Home needs an auditorium and or gymnasium the supporters should place an auditorium and or gymnasium bond before the voting public, be it school related or recreation related (we do have a recreation district) bond.

Two bonds, four results, and three chances to get improvements this sounds like a better deal for all concerned.
