Support group can really help

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Dear editor:

A group of local counselors has established a free support group called SHARE (Support, Help, And Resources for Encouragement).

The group meets Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Jones Center, 950 N. 7th East St., across the parking lot from the main Nazarene Church building.

I've participated fairly regularly in the group and have found it really enriching. It provides an opportunity for significant conversations -- the kind of honest, heart-to-heart talk that's rare. I've learned, been encouraged and inspired by what I've heard. And, I believe, I've helped by what I've been able to say.

Professional counselors are on hand to help make the sessions beneficial to all. Almost any life situation -- managing stress, managing children, adjusting the balance between caring for self and others, domestic abuse, responding to legal or financial challenges, divorce, bereavement, feelings of loneliness and isolation, for example -- can be an occasion for seeking group support.

Anyone who feels inclined to do so can take advantage of this group. I think they'll find a warm welcome.

For more information, call 587-4444 or 828-7143.

Special thanks go to the Mountain Home Nazarene Church for generously allowing the group to use the Jones Center, and to the counselors who donate so much time and talent to this worthy effort.
