Mountain Home suffered just its third conference loss of the season Thursday night at home, losing to Middleton in a defensive struggle, 31-27.

Neither team shot that well, as the defenses controlled the game.

Mountain Home did not score until Damian Soliz' basket with 4:24 left in the first quarter, which cut the Viking lead to 4-2. Middleton managed an 8-0 run to go up, 12-2, and led 12-3 after a quarter.

Mountain Home held the Vikings to just three points in the second period, but scored only five themselves, as they trailed 15-8 at the half.

It was more of the same in the third, as the defenses again prevailed, each team adding four more points to the total, with the Vikings up 19-12 heading into the fourth.

Mountain Home had a great start to the fourth, getting two baskets from Tom Hennessey and two free throws from David Bitrick to pull within one, 19-18, with 5:58 left.

Brock Morris scored with 4:50 left to again bring the Tigers within one, 21-20, but a trey by Middleton made it 24-20. Morris again scored to bring the Tigers within two, 24-22, with 2:47 left.

Middleton hit three of four free throws to stretch the lead to 27-22 with 56 seconds left. Taylor Phillips drained a trey to pull Mountain Home back within two, 27-25, with 24 seconds left, but the Vikings sank four of six free throws the rest of the way to hold off the Tigers 31-27.

Brock Morris led the Tigers in scoring with seven points. David Bitrick added six, Tom Hennessey, five, Damian Soliz, four, Taylor Phillips, three, and Jordan Warila, two to round out the scoring.
