Thomas McCain, Jr.

Thomas Owen McCain, Jr., 74, of Mountain Home, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at his home.

A Viewing was held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. No formal funeral services are planned at this time.

Thomas was born on Dec. 4, 1932, in Jasper, Fla., to Thomas, Sr., and Mantha McCain. His family moved to Jacksonville when he was 12 years old and he graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1950. Following high school he attended the University of Florida.

Thomas worked for Republic Aircraft on Long Island, N.Y., and then joined the US Air Force in 1952 and was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base. He was also stationed at Marrakech, Morocco, in North Africia.

Thomas married Twilla Montrose of Mountain Home in 1953 and together they had three sons, Tom, Mike and Blaine. The family moved back to Florida in the late '50s, then back to Idaho in the early '60s. Twilla died in 1979.

Thomas worked for the Hub in Mountain Home through the '60s and '70s. He then managed Mac's Shoe Shack in the '70s and then he worked construction with his son, Mike, in the '90s and back to the Hub in the late '90s until it closed.

While living for a short time in Great Falls, Mont., Thomas met and married Faith Hawley. Together they had two sons, Stephen and Matthew.

Thomas is survived by: his wife of 20 years, Faith McCain; his son, Mike, and his wife, Trecia McCain of Mountain Home; his son, Blane, and his wife, Loree McCain, of Mountain Home; his son, Tommy, and his wife, Tanya McCain, of Tacoma, Wash.; his sons Stephen and Matthew McCain, both of Mountain Home; his sister, Jeanne MacDowall, four nieces, seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both his parents and his first wife, Twilla.
