Lady Tigers play well but fall to Bishop Kelly

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers showed glimpses of their potential to contend for the Southern Idaho Conference 4A girls basketball race, but fell short in their conference opener at Bishop Kelly last Tuesday night.

Mountain Home battled the Lady Knights tough all night, and went into the second period up, 10-8. The first half ended with the Lady Tigers up, 18-16.

Bishop Kelly came out in the second half and outscored the Lady Tigers, 28-17. Bishop Kelly led, 29-26, after three quarters, and were able to stretch it, and won, 44-35.

"They managed to pull away in the second half," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger coach Brent Keener. "Shelby (Posey) got in foul trouble and we just made some bad mistakes and missed some easy shots. I thought overall we did a good job. I thought Fran (Hale) did a great job defensively on what I consider their best player. She just scored eight points, and I think she was averaging about 16 a game. Our free throw shooting hurt us again."

Mountain Home hit just seven of 16 free throws, while Bishop Kelly connected on 15 of 22 from the charity stripe.

Shelby Posey led Mountain Home in scoring with nine points. Brandie Riggs netted eight, Francesca Hale and Chantell Crane each scored six, Emily Moranda, five, and Hannah Zamora added three.

It's a busy week for the Lady Tigers this week, as they hosted Wood River on Monday night, travel to Nampa tonight, and host Jerome Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
