JV squad defeats Wood River

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers junior varsity basketball team picked up their first win of the young season at Wood River Friday night, after dropping their girls basketball game at Vallivue earlier in the week.

A 20-10 edge for Vallivue in the first quarter proved to be the difference last Tuesday night at Vallivue as the Lady Tigers fell short, 49-36.

Vallivue outscored Mountain Home just 29-26 the last three quarters, as the Lady Tigers played with them the rest of the game.

Blas Lord led the Lady Tigers in scoring at Vallivue with 10 points. Brenda Hawkins netted eight, Breann Christiansen and Annika Moody each had four, Jasmyn Jewett and Bre Sugden, three each, Charde` Huntington, and Sarah Cantrell both scored two.

The Lady Tigers JV held off Wood River's JV 40-34 to pick up their first win of the season Friday night at Wood River.

Mountain Home led 6-4 after a quarter and were up 17-15 at the half. They increased their lead to 28-21 after three and held on for the 40-34 win.

The girls played well, and when it got close in the fourth quarter, they kept their composure and hit their free throws at the end of the game to hold them off," said Lady Tiger JV basketball coach Jeremy Sayer.

Breann Christiansen led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points. Ashley Christiansen added nine, Annika Moody, eight, Blas Lord, six, Jasmyn Jewett and Charde` Huntington each scored two, and Brenda Hawkins, had one point to round out the scoring.

The Lady Tigers JV opened their conference schedule last night at Bishop Kelly and host Wood River at home on Monday night at 6 p.m. They travel to Nampa on Nov. 28, and host Jerome in an afternoon game (12:30 p.m.) on Dec. 1.
