Talkin' Tigers Finish fifth at Canyon County Classic Tournament

The Mountain Home High School Talkin' Tigers Speech and Debate team finished fifth among the 19 high schools competing last weekend at the Canyon County Classic Tournament at Skyview High School.

Team captains T.J. Billinger and Ali Howe each earned a top award at tournament, which was attended by more than 200 participants.

Howe was the top overall speaker in Student Congress while Billinger was voted top Presiding Officer in his Student Congress Chamber. Billinger also was a finalist in Impromptu Speaking, where he finished seventh.

Sophomore Lucas Marsh finished third in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate while competing in just his second tournament.

The team of Bridget Sinerius and Andria Kochick finished third in Novice Public Forum Debate while teammates Alycia Crandal and Amanda Raines were quarter finalists in the same event. Travis Goldsby and Michael Heinen were quarter finalists in Open Public Forum debate.

Freshman Melodie Lettkeman and Junior Eli Holland each qualified for the finals of Dramatic Interpretation with Lettkeman finishing fourth and Holland fifth.

Novice Chelsie Girty qualified for the final of Impromptu Speaking and finished fifth. This was the first time the sophomore had competed in a speech tournament.

Tim Roemer finished sixth in Expository Speaking.
