Get involved; help others

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

As we get ready for the holiday season it is time to start thinking about helping others less fortunate than ourselves.

There are a number of ways to do it, but the two big ones in the community are the Chamber of Commerce Giving Tree Program, which will kick off the weekend after Thanksgiving, and the Cheer Basket Project, which already is collecting donations. The Cheer Basket provides food for the needy for the holidays. The Giving Tree provides toys and other presents. Both make a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of local families whose Christmas would be much less than the holiday it should be without those two community projects.

In addition, local civic clubs and virtually every church in town also work to provide Christmas cheer with present and food packages.

There are a lot of ways to help. Check the paper out in the coming weeks, or get in touch with your local church or any civic group to which you belong.

It is truly better to give than to receive, and now is the best time of year to take that lesson to heart.
