Letter to the Editor

Fred Prouty endorses his son

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Dear editor:

I am writing on behalf of my son, Mitch Prouty, who is running for a city council seat. I will be brief and try not to be prejudiced just because he is my son. Of course, that is impossible.

When Mitch first approached me to say he had an interest in taking a shot at a city council seat, I was taken aback. Having served there myself for 22 years I knew just how difficult a job it is and how thankless it can be. Yet, I did not hesitate to jump behind him and offer my help.

The reason for this was simple. I just knew he would make a good city councilman. Why? Number one reason is his strong character. He is a man of his word, he is not one to pick a fight for no reason at all, and he dedicates himself once he takes on a project.

I also know him as quiet but tough. He may not say a lot at times, but inside he is always absorbing other's thoughts and waiting for his turn to respond. Sometimes he waits longer than others to do this, but he does do it.

I have always told my son that he is my hero. He is the kind of person I would like to be like. And he has been told many times by former students and friends of the tremendous influence he had over them and the way he touched there lives.

Now we need fresh leadership. So, Mr. Editor, I am going to throw my son to the political dog-eat-dog system knowing full well he will function within the confines of the job just fine. I really believe he can do good things for all of us.

Fred W. Prouty
