Get out and vote Tuesday

Tuesday's Mountain Home city elections are vital to the future of this community and we can't emphasize enough the need for citizens to wisely choose their candidates and then go vote.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mountain Home Public Library.

The mayor's race highlights the election, with two long-time figures in city politics contesting for the post -- incumbent Joe B. McNeal and challenger Tom Rist, a 12-year veteran of the city council.

The two have widely divergent views on how the mayor's office should be run for the best administration of the city, and voters will be asked essentially to select which styles of administration they prefer.

For the city council race, there are two open positions with five highly qualified candidates seeking the offices. On the ballot are Geoff Schroeder, Russ Anderson, Albert Clement and Mitch Prouty. Running as a write-in is C.D. Houston (voters writing in Houston's name must fill in the entire name for it to be counted). Each of the candidates brings different skills to the table, but all are considered to be qualified, capable individuals.

But no matter who you prefer, it won't mean a thing if you don't vote. So mark your calendar and make sure you go to the polls Tuesday.
